Rochester paintless dent repair is here to stay. In the wake of last week’s hailstorms here in Rochester and Monroe County, I thought it would be helpful to write about the damage that hail can cause to your car’s sheet metal and body panels, as well as the best way to repair it.
If you have never heard about paintless dent repair (PDR), it is simply a method of taking small dents out of your vehicle’s body panels without requiring a repaint. In most cases, as long as the paint surface isn’t “broken” by whatever caused the damage, and as long as the dent itself isn’t too large, paintless dent repair can be used to fix the problem.
The small dents normally associated with hail damage, such as we saw last week in Rochester, are typically ideal for paintless dent repair to be used successfully, saving quite a bit of time, material, and therefore expense.
PDR requires a qualified technician to gain access to the back side of the dent and, using several types of long probes, press the dent out of the metal. It requires patience and a deft touch, but many dents can can be removed this way, even those you don’t imagine.
If the tech can’t access the backside of the dent, or if the dent is too large or is on a body panel crease, the dent most likely isn’t repairable using PDR.
Auto body repair, including paintless dent repair, has come a long way in the last few years. Here at Valley Cadillac-HUMMER, we have been doing PDR for longer than most upstate NY auto body repair shops, and our PDR tech, Lincoln Miller, has more experience with Rochester paintless dent repair than anyone else in town.

Or, simply I’ll get right back to you.
